The telecommunication network of Hong Kong

GSM 900, GSM 1800 and CDMA are common in used Hong Kong 2G telecom network. WCDMA(UMTS) is the 3G telecom network in used. Hong Kong's country-code is 852, no area coded are used. Normally local phone numbers have 8 digits, fixed-line number starts with 2 prefix, and mobile phone number start with 6 or 9.

  • Payphones always beside the street, inside 7-Eleven, MTR and also founded in some shopping mall. It cost HKD$1 for every 5 minutes, accepted HKD coins, credit card and Octopus card.
  • Pre-Paid phone card is easily to purchase from 7-Eleven, the telecom service provider or some store.
  • International roaming is available in Hong Kong onto its GSM 900/1800 and 3G networks, subject to agreements between operators.
